The Footlight Club is pleased to present “The Rising Talent Showcase”, a group exhibition of eight artists, under 25 years old. The art show will run from February 10th - February 24th, during the theater’s production run of Lynn Nottage’s Sweat. Opening reception on February 10th from 6:30pm-7:30pm. The Parker Room/Joy Cochran Gallery is open for viewing for two hours before curtain for every performance or by appointment.
The eight artists represented in this exhibit are Aoife Bergeron, Nev Fernandez, Sarah Mason, Savanah Cornell, Ren Schultz, Taliyah Shepard, Amelia Hill and Sinead Bergeron. The roster is made up of past and present students of Montserrat, MassART and Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School.
While the exhibited works vary greatly in terms of media, scale and concept, the artists themselves are a representation of the voices of young artists as they leave the comfort of their educational institutions and beginning their professional careers.
The Joy Cochran Gallery in the Parker Room is a part of the legendary The Footlight Club, America’s oldest continuously running community theater. Joy Cochran started the gallery as a home for the Jamaica Plain Open Studios artists who were displaced from their studios during the 1980s. Exhibitions and events were presented in conjunction with the theater’s productions and during the Annual Jamaica Plain Open Studios.
The gallery is located on the first floor of the 147 year old theater at 7A Eliot Street, in the historic Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. The gallery is free and open to the public for two hours prior to curtain call during the theater’s production run and by appointment.
