Regarding Actor Health and Safety:

The health and safety of actors, production team, and patrons is The Footlight Club’s highest priority, and we aim to be transparent regarding our plans for Covid-19 safety during rehearsals and performances. While we will not ask actors or production crew to show proof of vaccination or a negative test result, we expect that all participants in this production who are able will be fully vaccinated by the time of auditions.

Production staff will be masked during the audition process, and actors are asked to wear masks until their individual audition, at which time they are welcome to remove their masks. If actors are paired in a scene during callbacks, they are asked to remain masked.

We expect to perform The Doll’s House unmasked and without social distancing measures (for actors or for audiences). Policies and procedures will be in place to ensure actor and production staff safety throughout the rehearsal and production period, including a slow “ramp up” to mask-less rehearsals, regular hand sanitizing, and efforts to maintain proper ventilation and airflow in our historic building. Additionally, understudies will be used during our rehearsal and performances (with guaranteed stage time!) to allow for the requirement that actors call out when feeling ill. All folks auditioning will be asked to read and agree to our policies. To read the complete document prior to auditions, please click here. Please email our producer Kate Bischoff with any questions: dollshouseflc@gmail.com

ABOUT THE SHOW

Set in our contemporary moment, the play examines the life of Nora, an ordinary woman at odds with her husband, her friends, and her community. Ibsen’s classic play examines themes of wealth, trust, and equality in a translation by Henrietta Frances Lord, against a soundtrack of 90’s rock.

We welcome actors of all ages, races, ethnicities, abilities, genders, and body types.

The Characters

**Please Note: This production will include casting of understudies. Please read more about the understudy process and expectations here.

Nora Helmer (mid-thirties to mid-forties, female-identifying): a woman stuck in her past but yearning for the future. She is playful, smarter than she’s given credit for, and strong as hell.

Torvald Helmer (mid-thirties to fifties, male-identifying): Nora’s husband. A man who is delighted by his own status. He is fearful, and not as smart as he thinks he is.

Krogstad (an adult of any age, male-identifying): works with Torvald at the bank. A contradictory figure. Despicable to Nora, but also sympathizes with her.

Dr. Rank (an adult of any age, male-identifying): Torvald’s best friend. Diseased, body and soul, and rather stoic about it.

Christina Linden (late twenties-mid-forties, female-identifying): Nora’s friend and confidante. Practical, not wealthy, grounded.

Mary Ann (an adult of any age, female-identifying): the Helmer’s housekeeper and former governess. Has genuine affection for Nora.

Understudy 1: Male-identifying; this actor will perform the role of Krogstad on the November 4th and 11th performances. They will understudy Torvald and Rank.

Understudy 2: Female-identifying; this actor will perform the role of Mary Ann on the November 4th and 11th performances. They will understudy Nora and Christina Linden.
